a book of our stories

The Book of Survivors’ Stories

The Book of Survivors’ Stories is one of the most meaningful projects at Unheard Voices Project CIC, a powerful collection of real experiences shared by people who have lived through trauma, adversity, and profound challenges, yet continue to rise. This book is not just a publication; it is a testament to courage, healing, and the strength found in speaking your truth.

At its core, the project exists to give survivors a safe, supported space to tell their stories in their own words. Every chapter reflects a journey: moments of pain, resilience, hope, and transformation. By bringing these voices together, we aim to show that no one is alone, and that healing becomes possible when stories are heard, honoured, and shared.

What the Book Represents

  • A platform for unheard voices — Many survivors feel silenced or overlooked. This book ensures their experiences are recognised and valued.

  • A tool for healing — Sharing a story can be a powerful step toward recovery, helping survivors reclaim their narrative.

  • A source of connection — Readers will see themselves in these stories, finding comfort, solidarity, and understanding.

  • A catalyst for change — Real stories challenge stigma, inspire empathy, and encourage better support for those affected by trauma.

How the Stories Are Created

Each contributor is supported throughout the process. We offer:

  • Guided writing support to help survivors express their experiences safely and confidently.

  • Trauma‑informed practice to ensure emotional wellbeing is prioritised at every stage.

  • Creative workshops where participants can explore storytelling through writing, art, poetry, or spoken word.

  • Confidentiality and choice — contributors decide how much they share, whether they use their name, and how their story is presented.

Why This Book Matters

Survivors’ stories have the power to shift perspectives, challenge stereotypes, and build stronger, more compassionate communities. By publishing this book, Unheard Voices Project CIC hopes to:

  • Raise awareness of the realities people face

  • Encourage open conversations about trauma and recovery

  • Highlight the resilience within our community

  • Inspire others to seek support, speak out, or begin their own healing journey

This book is a celebration of human strength. It honours the voices that have been quiet for too long and creates a legacy of hope for future generations.

an exhibition of our stories

All You Need to Know About Our Film & Art Exhibition

The Unheard Voices Film & Art Exhibition is a powerful creative showcase that brings survivors’ experiences to life through visual storytelling. This exhibition is more than an event, it is a space where courage, healing, and human resilience are seen, felt, and honoured.

Through film, photography, mixed‑media art, and spoken‑word performances, we amplify the voices of people who have lived through trauma, adversity, and silence. Every piece in the exhibition represents a journey: a moment of truth, a reclaiming of identity, and a declaration that “I am here, and my story matters.”

What the Exhibition Represents

  • Creative expression — Art becomes a safe and powerful way for survivors to share what words alone cannot capture.

  • Visibility — The exhibition shines a light on experiences that are often hidden or misunderstood.

  • Community connection — Visitors engage with real stories, building empathy and understanding.

  • Advocacy through art — Each piece challenges stigma, sparks conversation, and encourages change.

The Film Project

Our film series features short documentaries, personal reflections, and creative visual pieces created with and by survivors. Using a trauma‑informed approach, we support participants to share their stories safely and authentically.

The films explore themes such as:

  • Healing

  • Identity

  • Resilience

  • Hope

Each film invites viewers to witness the strength behind the struggle and the humanity behind the headlines.

The Art Exhibition

The art exhibition features work created by survivors and community members, including:

  • Photography capturing moments of truth and transformation

  • Mixed‑media pieces expressing layered emotions and lived experiences

  • Painting and illustration exploring trauma, healing, and identity

  • Poetry and spoken word performed live or displayed as visual text

  • Collaborative installations symbolising unity, recovery, and collective strength

Every piece is created with support, choice, and dignity at the centre.

Why This Exhibition Matters

The Film & Art Exhibition is a celebration of voices that have been quiet for too long. It creates a space where survivors can be seen without judgement, where communities can learn with compassion, and where healing becomes a shared experience.

By bringing these stories into the public eye, we aim to:

  • Break down stigma

  • Encourage open conversation

  • Inspire empathy and understanding

  • Empower survivors to reclaim their narrative

  • Strengthen community awareness and support

This exhibition is a reminder that art can heal, film can reveal, and stories can change lives.
